When The Open Road Closes
RVers across the country have been impacted by an uneven patchwork of state and local orders affecting whether campgrounds are permitted to be open and which guests they can accept. Recently, the New York Times took an in-depth look at the hurdles current RVers are facing and the efforts to get RV parks recognized as essential businesses in their piece titled, “When the Open Road Closes.” The article shared unique stories told by traveling nurses, full-time RV families, and RVers caught across the country from home when the coronavirus crisis began closing campgrounds.
This issue is the reason the RV Industry Association has been working so diligently with industry partners the and the National RV Dealers Association to have all RV businesses considered essential. Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, these efforts have included over 3,300 people sending more than 62,000 letters to policymakers across the country asking for RV businesses - especially campgrounds - to be allowed to continue to operate according to CDC guidelines.
The RV industry will continue to advocate on behalf of all RVers to urge that campgrounds remain open and accessible as long as the providers are following all appropriate guidelines and there’s no threat to the health and safety of visitors, employees, and natural resources.
