Elkhart Unemployment Rate Drops To 1.6%
A record low unemployment rate is making it tough to attract and retain workers, local employers say.
More than 20 companies were set up at the Engineering, Technology and Innovation building on the campus of Elkhart High School on Tuesday looking for fresh faces during a job fair organized by WorkOne Northern Indiana.
According to job fair organizers, employers were looking to fill more than 400 positions.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported in March that the Elkhart-Goshen metropolitan area had the lowest unemployment rate in the country at 1.6%. The monthly report is scheduled to be updated again this week.
