KOA Makes Push For Campgrounds To Open In Michigan By Memorial Weekend
In Michigan, many campgrounds around the state are only open to essential workers and those living in RV's during the COVID-19 pandemic.
One national campground organization made a push to open for Memorial Day weekend in Michigan.
As of Sunday, May 17, 2020, the KOA campgrounds in Michigan were still closed, which included its location in Covert Township.
The KOA surveyed campers and non-campers during early May 2020 to get an idea of their attitudes about the activity during the pandemic.
When asked about their camping plans in 2020, 41 percent of campers said they still plan to take their planned camping trips, 31 percent have canceled or will likely cancel, and 13 percent said they will postpone.
President and CEO of Kampgrounds of America Toby O'Rourke said people want to be outside more than ever and has reached out to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer asking to allow camping to resume.
