New Mexico Relaxes Many COVID Restrictions Impacting RV Industry

In New Mexico, the restrictions impacting the RV industry implemented in November have been eased in many areas of the state, effective February 28. Under the latest orders, vehicle manufacturing and servicing are still considered essential and allowed to remain open. Other segments of the RV industry continue to fall under the state’s “Red to Green” framework, which restricts activities in counties designated as Red. Only one county is currently designated as Red in the updated map (Guadalupe); nineteen are currently Yellow, seven are Green (San Juan, McKinley, Santa Fe, Roosevelt, Socorro, Lea, and Hildalgo), while the remaining seven counties are deemed Turquoise, the least restrictive designation (Union, Harding, Quay, DeBaca, Los Alamos, Catron, and Sierra).

For dealerships in Guadalupe County, sales visits by appointment are permitted, as long as capacity is limited to 25 percent of maximum capacity. In counties designated as Yellow, the limit is 33 percent; in the Green counties, the limit is 50 percent, while in the Turquoise counties, the limit is 75 percent of maximum capacity. Completely online sales are permitted in all counties.

New Mexico state park campgrounds have reopened to all visitors as of February 28, but reservations are required. Private RV parks and campgrounds are required to follow the Red to Green framework for places of lodging. In the Red county, they are limited to 40 percent capacity if the owner/operator has completed the NM Safe Certified training and 25 percent if they have not. Those in Yellow counties are limited to 60% capacity with the certification and 25% without it. Those in Green counties can have 75% capacity with the certification and 40% without it. In the Turquoise counties, private RV parks and campgrounds have no maximum capacity if they have the certification, while limited to 50 percent capacity without having completed the training.

The government affairs team will continue to monitor activities in all state in response to the COVID crisis and advocate for the critical role of the RV industry within the state.
