The Search Is On
It takes a special kind of leader with unique competencies and skills to successfully build great companies and teams. With the development of the RV Technical Institute underway, the search has officially commenced to find the future leader of the institute who will lead the charge in solving the RV industry's shortage of trained technicians.
Reporting to and partnering with the RV Industry Association’s president, the institute’s executive director will play the leading role in developing and implementing a new RV Technical Institute according to the strategic direction set by the RV Industry Association Board of Directors and RV Technical Institute Advisory Board.
In this leadership capacity, the executive director will execute on the RV Technical Institute’s vision by developing and overseeing the strategy, implementation and evaluation of the institute’s programs, services and special projects, all of which will take into consideration stakeholder value.
In addition to the strategic components, the executive director will act as a spokesperson for the institute and will represent the organization at community events to enhance the organization’s community profile. This individual will also be charged with researching and securing funding sources by creating a fundraising plan and writing proposals to increase the revenues of the institute.
“This is an outstanding opportunity for a seasoned executive with experience in career and technical education, operations and a proven track record of creative problem-solving to join in a financially sound, mission-driven organization,” said RV Industry Association President Frank Hugelmeyer, who is leading the search along with a small Executive Search Committee of industry stakeholders.
“The most important qualification will be a demonstrable passion for the mission of the RV Technical Institute. We’re looking for a hands-on manager with integrity and a desire to work in a dynamic environment,” Hugelmeyer continued. “Knowledge and experience in career and technical education, as well as leadership and management experience are also high on our list. And, of course, knowledge of current industry challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the organization and knowledge of the RV industry in general are a huge plus.”
“As to the pool of candidates, we are searching high and low for this individual. We are looking at other tech training schools, at other industries with similar programs and, of course, within the RV industry itself for the right person,” said Hugelmeyer.
Matt Wald, RV Industry Association vice president of strategic initiatives, who has been leading the RV Technical Institute’s strategic planning and launch since its inception added, “The institute is poised to become a pillar of the RV industry. So, its leader should be a pillar of not just the RV industry but also the Elkhart community. I will be spending time with our executive recruiting firm in Elkhart helping them understand not just the RV industry, but the RV community that exists in the Elkhart area, so they can find the right person to fill the role.”
“I look forward to passing the reins of the institute off to a dynamic leader who will exceed the expectations we have set around repair event cycle times and for the future of RV technician recruitment and training," Wald concluded.
