What Are Campers Saying About Their Plans For Camping?

Jun 10, 2020

According to Drivin’ & Vibin’s Kyle Brady, 96 percent of the folks they talked with say they are going camping this summer. Brady is a prolific content creator and influencer in the RV space. His content reaches hundreds of thousands of RVers every month, discussing all the topics relevant to this audience.

The conversation was part of a recent panel during the Back to Camping Summit, featuring Mike and Jen Wendland of RVLifestyle.com, Marc and Julie Bennett of RVLove, and Brady. Each reaching well over one million campers and RVers every month, the group discussed what their camping audience has been thinking, planning, and looking forward to in the next few weeks, months, and year. Information that will be critical to campground operators as they prepare and adjust operations in a post COVID-19 world.

Mike and Jen Wendland operate RVLifestyle.com and are authors, podcasters, and video producers. Their audience is concerned with five things: campground websites that work, real people to answer phones, immaculate bathrooms, room between sites, and flat locations.

Marc and Julie Bennett of RVLove are full-time RVers, and co-authors of the bestselling book Living the RV Life – Your Ultimate Guide to Life on the Road. The Bennetts reported that their followers are itching to “head out,” with 34 percent saying they were ready to go camping as usual. The vast majority of their audience are making plans to go out this summer, with almost 40 percent heading for RV campgrounds or state parks. A small number are planning to boondock. The outdoor experience is fundamental, but they expect and want campgrounds they visit to place COVID-19 protocols above activities and events.

And Brady’s group? Although they want the parks to sanitize all the public areas, many campers did feel that they are responsible for the cleanliness of the areas they use and are ready to pitch in to make sure camping can be enjoyed safely by all.

The freedom RVs represent is fundamental, as are the experiences gained from the outdoors.
