Girl Scouts Design RVs With Thor Motor Coach, Debut Makerspace At Camp McMillen
Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana (GSNI-M) got a chance to design their own recreational vehicles during two special STEM-related events at Camp Agnes S. McMillen.
Elkhart-based RV manufacturer Thor Motor Coach presented the LEAP (Learn, Engage, Achieve, Perform) program to Girl Scout Juniors and Cadettes during June 30's “Minds for Design” day camp. The LEAP program challenged teams of girls to work together to construct an RV out of LEGOs, learn from their mistakes and conduct a process improvement. Girls then had a chance to tour an RV and learn about careers in the RV industry.
Girl Scouts also officially debut the new “Makerspace” located in the lower level of the Friendship House at the camp, 17107 Griffin Road, Huntertown. Funded primarily by a $50,000 grant from the AEP Foundation, the space allows Girl Scouts to do hands-on STEM activities and badge workshops including building rollercoasters, designing robots, and learning about the science in their kitchens.
