Standards Training Promotes Greater Understanding of Codes and Safety Standards

Jun 11, 2024

The RV Industry Association’s Standards’ team offers educational resources and hands-on training to help manufacturer member companies successfully comply with safety codes and regulations such as the National Fire Protection Association 1192 and the National Electric Code.

One recent training session took place with the Aluminum Trailer Company, who invited the Standards team to their facility in Nappanee, IN, to provide training on common code and compliance issues in the RV industry. Topics included voltage and plumbing. Attendees were comprised of quality controllers, pre-delivery inspectors, department leads, and production managers.

Instruction was led by Standards Inspectors Nate Tressler and Kyle VanTassel, who prepared for the training session by discussing with the Aluminum Trailer Company which subjects to cover.

“The RV Industry Association came out and did on-site training at our facility with over 30 Aluminum Trailer Company employees,” says David Stevenson, a Quality Technician with the Aluminum Trailer Company. “The Association’s staff was very open to questions and promoted a very open discussion format. This training was very beneficial for our employees to increase their understanding of the various codes and to help us build a safe product for our customers.”

The RV Industry Association’s Standards department is its greatest member benefit. With its team of professional, full-time inspectors, the Standards department promotes the enhancement of safety by monitoring adherence to the standards adopted by the Board of Directors for the construction of RVs and Park Model RVs. The team conducts more than 2,000 inspections of member company RV manufacturing plants annually.

Standards training can take place virtually or in person at the member’s location. The intended audiences for these training courses include production line workers, quality control, plant managers, and group leaders.

Manufacturer member companies who are interested in scheduling a virtual or in-person training session can contact Bryan Ritchie, RV Industry Association Vice President of Standards at britchie@rvia.org.
