50% of leisure travelers who own an EV plan to use it to tow an RV and 30% of RV travelers plan to purchase an EV. Your support is needed now to incentivize pull-through charging for RVs and other medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.

Texas Eco Impact

More RVs are sold in Texas than any other state. Texas has cemented itself as a leader in EV manufacturing and innovation and boasts the third highest number of EV owners. Drivers are already using EVs to tow RVs and this evolving landscape means that the demand for pull-through charging stations is higher than ever before. It's vital that states account for the RV industry and deploy pull-through charging.

The nation currently has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reimagine the EV charging landscape to support future innovation and help drive EV adoption. As decisions are made on how to spend the $5 billion in federal funding for a national fast-charging network and $2.5 billion in rural and urban communities, charging companies and site hosts should keep an important automotive segment front of mind: recreation vehicles, or RVs as they are commonly known. Drivers are already using EVs to tow RVs and this evolving landscape means that the demand for pull-through charging stations is higher than ever before. It's vital that states account for the RV industry and deploy pull-through charging.

States that use funds for public pull-through charging networks will see several returns, including the following:

  • Increased business activity and revenue from EV-owning leisure road-trippers towing trailers or driving eRVs.

  • More efficient use of pull-in charging infrastructure, which need not accommodate larger EVs and EV-towed trailers.

  • A faster transition of commercial fleets to EVs.

  • More rapid progress toward climate goals because of fleet electrification.

The RV Industry Association has partnered with global engineering firm Black and Veatch to release a report and financial analysis that makes the case for federal funding to be used to install pull-through electric vehicle charging stations to meet the needs of RVers today and well into the future. The report lays out the current electric vehicle landscape, the consumer’s need for pull-through charging, and the importance of designing for pull-through charging.
